American-Made Wallpaper, Designed by Hand: The Story Behind Mayflower
12 de junio de 2026 – Mayflower Wallpaper
Quick Answer
Yes — Mayflower Wallpaper is American-made. Every pattern is designed by co-owner Jonathan French and printed at East Coast mills. Jonathan trained at London’s Chelsea School of Art and has spent his life in the wallpaper trade. Choosing Mayflower means papering your walls with one artist’s vision — made in the USA, not printed on demand from an overseas file.
There’s a moment that happens again and again with our customers. They’ve fallen for a pattern, they’re picturing it on their walls — and then they learn that the person who designed it is one of the two people who own the company. Something shifts. The wallpaper stops being a product and becomes a piece of someone. That reaction is the whole reason Mayflower exists.
Because wallpaper, done right, is not an accessory. It’s the finishing piece — the thing that turns a room into a room that’s yours. It tells a visitor something about you before you’ve said a word. When you choose a pattern, you’re really choosing a story to live inside. We think that story should come from a real artist, not a stock library.
Meet the designer behind Mayflower
Every Mayflower design comes from the hand of Jonathan French, our co-owner and designer. Jonathan didn’t arrive at wallpaper — he was raised in it, the son of British designer Anna French. He studied art at the Chelsea School of Art in London, and design has been his life’s work ever since.

For years he designed and sold within the family wallpaper house, learning the craft from the inside, and continued designing after the brand became part of the celebrated American firm Thibaut. Then, in 2013, he set out on his own and founded Mayflower — a chance to translate a lifetime of art into wallpaper made entirely on his own terms, here in the United States.
After a lifetime in design, the work still moves him. Every new order delights Jonathan — the thought of one of his patterns going up on a stranger’s wall, becoming part of their home. It never gets old.
Why a designer-owned studio matters
Most wallpaper you’ll find online is a file — licensed art, often printed on demand in a warehouse far away, with no one in particular behind it. Mayflower is the opposite. Every pattern in our collections began as Jonathan’s idea: his eye for color, his sense of scale, his decades of study. When you run your hand over a Mayflower wall, you’re touching one artist’s point of view.
That’s what our customers feel when they meet the maker. It’s the difference between buying a thing and being handed a story. Browse the Victorian, floral, or modern collections and you’re not scrolling a catalog — you’re looking at one designer’s body of work.
What “American-made” really means here
For Mayflower, American-made isn’t a sticker — it’s how the whole thing works. Jonathan designs in Rhode Island, and our papers are printed at East Coast mills. That keeps the craft close to home, which means tighter quality control, a smaller footprint than shipping rolls across oceans, and support for skilled domestic manufacturing. It also means that when you order, you’re dealing with the actual small team — Stephanie and Jonathan — behind the brand, not a faceless fulfillment center.
It’s the human version of “made in the USA”: a real designer, real mills, and real people who care how your walls turn out.
The story on your walls
When customers tell us a Mayflower pattern was the finishing piece their room had been missing, what they’re describing is identity. The right wallpaper doesn’t just decorate — it says who lives here. We love that you can now know exactly whose vision you’re bringing into your home: an artist who has spent his whole life learning how to make a wall feel like a story worth telling.
