How to Estimate Wallpaper Rolls
Not sure how many rolls you’ll need?
We’ve got three ways to help — whether you're a visual thinker or someone who loves a good equation.

🖼️ Prefer a simple, step-by-step breakdown? Scroll through the guide below.
-
Start with your wall widths:
Add up the widths of all the walls you’re wallpapering, then divide by the width of one roll.
Round that number up — that’s how many wallpaper strips you’ll need.
-
Figure out how many strips come from one roll:
Take the height of your wall and add the pattern repeat (if there is one).
Divide the total roll length by that number, then round it down — that tells you how many full strips you’ll get from each roll.
-
Put it all together:
Divide the number of strips you need by the number of strips you can get from one roll.
Round up one last time, and that’s how many rolls to order!
➗ More of a math brain? We’ve included the clean-cut formula too — calculator-friendly and satisfying to solve.
Wallpaper Roll Estimation (Friendly Formula)
Step 1: Strips Needed
Total wall width ÷ Roll width = Number of strips (round up)
Step 2: Strips Per Roll
Roll length ÷ (Wall height + Pattern repeat) = Strips per roll (round down)
Step 3: Rolls Needed
Strips ÷ Strips per roll = Total rolls needed (round up)
